Moving from Cincinnati to Los Angeles, I loaded up my car with everything I own and spent 5 days driving 2300+ miles across the country.
When the time finally came for me to relocate to the southern California area, I knew there were going to be a few things to consider. First, I did not want to drive with a U-haul from Cincinnati to LA; Second, I would have to take the trip solo, so it would take a few days and third, I wanted to take a route that was as epic as possible.

Worked like a dream, cruised the whole way, the car was a beast. Really appreciated it after the trip was all said and done.

That's epic! Glad you had a safe and pretty great looking drive!
Did the FJ give you any issues? I know they're not the most comfortable highway cruisers, so I was wondering how it felt after 2,400 miles of driving

More epic than when I drove from Louisville to Los Angeles in a 1995 Saturn SL2, manual transmission, no cruise, and all my junk in it. I managed to do it in 2.5 days. I went the southern route.

#2- Is that....a manual FJ Cruiser?
#3- Quite a few of us Opponauts are LA based as well.

I really, really, really need to take some time to explore this country like this.
Thanks for sharing. This was excellent.

Impressive! I drove an FJ on a hundred-mile road trip once. The huge blind spot made it terrifying.

A girl from my school (in Germany) had a FJ Cruiser and therefore was the star when people were driven to school every morning. A great looking car, too bad it never was officially sold in Europe.

If you watch the video, you'll see it's manual. ;)

Woah, that's seriously awesome.

I love how the FJ is one of the FEW manual SUVs you can buy on the market.

Great editing.
By the way, your car is my guilty pleasure. (I really like the FJ for reasons I can't really justify, to be honest)

I just want to go out of the country, I live in one of the most beautiful states in the US (Colorado :D ), don't need to see much more of it :P

How were the mpg's?
![]() 07/21/2014 at 16:05 |

I got approx 17-19mpg, cost about $550 USD for the whole trip, was fully loaded down in weight though!

Had to go all the way to New Jersey to get the 6speed, so much better manual than in Auto imo!

The new 2014 Trail Teams Limited edition in baby blue with the white bezel is going to be such a collector car someday
